The goal of this home was to recapture that “Carolina-country feel; a sense of the old Highlands”.   The resulting design is a striking example of structural openness.  The great room—35 feet high at its peak with rough hand-hewn white pine timbers that were “pickled” in a whitewash stain—manages to be both dramatic and welcoming.  A large entertaining space was important to the couple.  “I’m sort of an amateur chef,” says the homeowner.  “I wanted a big, wonderful kitchen where I could work, and my guests could be right there with me.”

The spacious back porch with fireplace and dry bar overlooks the lake and is another prime space for casual summer gatherings.  Dave Parmelee, co-owner of Scaly Mountain Builders, referred his clients to Hearthstone, Inc.  “The first home I built with Hearthstone was for my parents, and they were great to work with,” says Dave.  “When it became clear what this couple was looking for, I suggested we let Hearthstone help.”
