Savage River Lodge
Tucked away in the middle of Savage River State Forest, the Savage River Lodge provides the much-needed peace and quiet guests come to enjoy on its 40 acres of private land. The cabins – or eighteen “mini” lodges – were built using Hearthstone’s 6×12 Traditional Log System. Handcrafted from White Pine, the interlocking timber and authentic Chinking are meant to inspire guests’ reflection on their relationship with nature and those who tread the paths before them. Blending the tradition and nostalgia of tent camping with the comforts of the Lodge’s cabins, the yurts came to be. For romantic weekends, family getaways (some of the cabins are pet friendly so your “best friend” can come too), corporate retreats, weddings, reunions or just for random acts of escape, Savage River Lodge is sure to provide an unforgettable experience for all.
The Lodge
Built largely from sustainable lumber, The Lodge is an open architectural pleasure; form unites with function and makes a comfortable chair and a book in the library loft that much more special. It’s a common space for guests that feels like their own but warmly overlaps with the space of others. It provides a central meeting place for connecting with each other… with limited Wi-Fi and boasting views of an unforgettable sunrise, perfectly timed each day for admirers of mountain Maryland skies.
The Lodge is the central gathering point with a spacious 10,000 square feet and three floors of multi-use areas. The first floor is home to a 56 seat restaurant serving American regional cuisine, Great Room with double sided fireplace and relaxing, sink-into furniture, and full bar.
The second floor houses the library. The library is home to a collection of hundreds of books with ample space to read, relax, and explore. The main library and conference space is open to use for meeting and events up to 40 people. The loft library has comfortable reading areas and places to play board games.
Just off the East Porch is our bonfire circle and ski shop. The bonfire is a great place to relax and exchange stories with other guests.
The Cabins
The eighteen private cabins are a step beyond typical. Two stories of cozy comfort with architectural details of a stylish lodge retreat. All eighteen cabins provide an exceptionally warm living space that blends seamlessly with the surroundings. Once inside, you’ll do the same with furnishings designed to welcome and relax.
In the main sleeping loft, you’ll find a down-clad queen or king bed, good reading light and ample solitude.
The main floor seating area is furnished with sink-into chairs, a queen sleeper-sofa, table and chairs, a gas-log fireplace, gourmet hot beverage supplies and equipment, including wine glasses and an SRL wine opener and a small refrigerator. The generous bath offers two sinks, a soaking tub, and upscale offerings–hair dryer, thick towels, unique bath products. The rocking-chair-furnished porch provides a wonderful retreat.
The Yurts
Surrounded by only the sounds of the forest, with nothing on your agenda but a glass of wine and maybe a hike; that’s what glamorous camping, or “glamping” at the Lodge feels like. Yes, you heard right, the Lodge has eight yurts on our grounds and has brought “glamping” to the East Coast!
Each of the eight, 30-ft diameter, yurts has a private deck, sitting room, king-sized bed with luxury linens, comforters made of synthetic down (recycled plastic bottles), a fully-plumbed private bath with an extra-large shower and double sinks. The beverage center and a breakfast nook are for partaking of our famous, daily deliveries of muffins and orange juice.
