A little over a year ago, Hearthstone lost it's main manufacturing facility due to a major fire.
We had been operating in Dandridge, TN since 1971 up until this point.
“It’s pretty stunning,” owner Randy Giles said, surveying the smoking pile of rubble. “I’ve been coming in here 50 to 100 hours a week for 35 years.”
“When you get a call at 3 o’clock in the morning and the caller ID says Jefferson County Sheriff Department, there’s a lot of things that can go through your mind, and this is one of the bad ones, but it could’ve been worse,” Giles said, gesturing to the remains. “You can see it’s wood, it’s metal, it’s concrete. We can replace all that.”
Just a few months before the fire, Hearthstone announced the purchase of our new $3.9 million, 100,000 square-foot facility in Newport, TN, which was formerly the Bryant and Pack Lumber Company.
Fortunately, not everything was lost to the fire. Nearby materials sat untouched, as well as several outbuildings, some of which contained important equipment. “That went a long way towards our moving production to our other facility (July 2016),” Giles said. We were so fortunate to be able to continue operations at our nearby second manufacturing plant as we recovered.
At the time, the destructive fire was seen as a major setback. Rather than grieving, Hearthstone would like to celebrate this devastating day by sharing how far we have come over the course of a year.
We have relocated into a brand new 100, 000 sq. ft. facility that is full of state-of-the-art CNC capabilities, right down the road in neighboring Newport, TN. Through this expansion, Hearthstone was able to install not only one, but two Essetre 5-Axis-Multi-Head Robots that would not have fit at our previous Dandridge location. These unique CNC work centers are capable of reading floor plans and 3-dimensional computer-aided design models and can cut all the parts and pieces for a house. With the aid of 11 exchangeable tools, they are able to turn out state-of-the-art components for both log homes and timber frame homes.
Three machines running multiple shifts ensure on-time deliveries and top notch quality. A trained workforce and friendly project managers are poised for the next chapter at Hearthstone log and timber frame homes and structures.
